Epping Forest biography Since January 1998 – July 2004
Epping Forest play a kind of Black Metal with reminiscences of the Scandinavian essence, and their actual ‘style’ is increasingly difficult to characterise: the horde drinks from a myriad of different fountains, starting with metal and more obscure music, but not excluding other genres altogether. Nevertheless, it could and should be said that they play fast and they play brutal, using and creating lots of atmospheric and mystic elements. Early 1998 the project Epping Forest was released
from the flames of 3 wandering souls: MysticCosmoS, Noctis Lunaris and
Miguel. However, due to some problems related to line-up (which also led to
the extinction of another existing band), these were the only members of
which EF consisted over the course of the first 3 years. In February 2001
Epping Forest completed their line-up with the admission of Alemão for drums
and percussion. In June Alemão
left the band due to personal reasons. Later that year, Aenima Seraphitus
fills the vacant bassist position and Pinto (also in the ranks of MORBIUS)
replaces Alemão on the drums. By the end of November 2001, and also due to the
fact that there was not enough time to rehearse with the band, Miguel decides
to leave the band. His replacement
comes under the shape of Cristiano (guitars and vocals in MORBIUS). At the beginning
of February 2002, Cristiano is more or less ‘forced’ to leave Epping Forest,
as it was beyond his capacity to cope with 2 bands plus his studies. At the beginning
of October 2002, Azrael is crowned permanent vokillist. His work has been
very impressive so far! In a matter of weeks (one month only, actually) he has
managed to write the lyrics for ALL songs, adjusting them to the music
already composed. As a result, EF were able to participate in the contest
taking place at the 4Play Bar (October 2002) (please read reference below). Abraxis. Such is the name which has been rumoured to
be the next EF member. In fact, he joined the horde and is now playing the
lead/rhythm guitar alongside MysticCosmoS. His presence and function has
definitely helped strengthening EF’s sound, and that had been our intention
for the past months. In the time span
between October 2002 and April 2003 Epping Forest
participated in a contest. This contest
consisted in a selection of bands to be playing for 'Metal Force', the Finale
that turned out to be held at the 4Play Bar (Santo
Tirso, Portugal). Epping Forest’s
ranking was as follows: (12 out of 40 bands were to be
selected for the next phase); (3 out of the 12 already selected
bands were to be admitted into the next phase); (Amongst the 3 best-voted bands, a new winner was to be selected). By December 2003, Aenima Seraphitus – one of the members who have
definitely contributed for the growth of the band – decides to part ways for
various reasons, none of which include eternal hatred. This decision proved
the most accurate for both sides and his work shall not be forgotten. Due to professional incompatibility, Abraxis in the end
of February 2004 has suspended his functions for an indeterminate time span.
This option and casualty in the band’s core shall not interfere with the
band’s progression, who will continue their path exactly as we started: with
only one guitar. On March 2004, the band has
reached consensus and the possibility of another guitarist, though not
altogether out of question, is not a priority at the moment. In addition,
this ‘indeterminate’ exit shall also not interfere with the recording process
of our debut CD, at present being recorded at the Grave Studios (Braga) until
late May. Live performances will also very much remain the same. Reviews and
press have it that EPPING FOREST, nowadays a quartet, have neither lost in
